The Help ...And the winner is... drum roll please... The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Thanks for all your suggestions. They all sound great and I plan to read many of these recommendations throughout the summer. but I picked The Help because (1) I heard from multiple sources that it was fantastic. (2) the author is a friend of Katie and SF from Plot This and (3) It was available at the tiny airport bookstore!Corey Schwartzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03883689227283545602noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3647218177948670695.post-77857778921290048332009-06-25T19:21:11.760-04:002009-06-25T19:21:11.760-04:00A great beach read? Such a feel-good story, very well-written, excellent use of POV. I thought the whole premise was kinda creepy. But omigosh, you must read the book. It is SOOO good!!

Percy Jackson books are great, fast reads, but if you want a grown up book, try Loving Frank, written from the perspective of Frank Lloyd Wright's mistress. And of course, Eat, Pray, Love is really good, too, but not "light" beach reading.Sherrie Petersenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11670339498152684137noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3647218177948670695.post-67965142119683275752009-06-23T20:46:37.992-04:002009-06-23T20:46:37.992-04:00What constitutes a beach book?

These are both good speculative fiction choices. Then again, both of these might be "creepy and haunting" for you.

Hmmm...something lighter? Something that will tug your heartstrings? Road to Paris is a good one, or Walk Two Moons, by Sharon Creech. Oh! How about The Goose Girl, by Shannon Hale? It's a retold fairy tale. Adventure, danger, romance, a bit of magic (a touch, nothing over-the-top). You can't go wrong with that book.Rebecca Gomezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06842712720778708758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3647218177948670695.post-17802919778938465142009-06-23T17:06:39.209-04:002009-06-23T17:06:39.209-04:00Wow! Also the Luxe series is highly entertaining and slightly trashy (always a good combo). Sounds like a heavenly get-away.
Books, hmmm. If you haven't read them, you could choose from among the National Book Award finalists, or you could go for buzz books like "The Hunger Games," "Graceling," etc.
I have so many books I keep picking up and can't keep up with the growing stack.
