February Picture Book Round Up

A couple of weeks ago, my friend called and said, "Congrats! You got a shout out on the Verla Kay Blue Boards! Someone asked for recommendations of picture book blogs. And a responder listed Thing 1 and Thing 2 as one of their favorites."

"Really?" I asked in surprise.

I was all smiles.

Until I realized, I am not one of the best picture books blogs in the blogosphere. I am one of the ONLY picture book blogs.

So, I have decided to do a Picture Book Round Up. Kind of like Shelli's Marketing Round Up, but for picture books (and not as frequent).

Here are the best posts I found for February:

If You Want to Be a Picture Book Writer - Pam Calvert, author of Princess Peepers, talks about her struggle to learn the art of the picture book. In this fabulous post, Pam shares what she learned from Anastasia Suen's PB Intensive.

Saying a Lot with a Little: - Anyone who knows anything about picture books knows that less is more. But Tara Lazar doesn't just tell us this. She shows us using Kathi Applet's PB as an example to demonstrate economy of words. Take a look and see what Kathi leaves unsaid.

Okay, that's all I've got! (Told you there weren't many blogs focusing on the PB genre)

If you've got any good links that I missed, please let me know and I'll add them!

You're right - there aren't many. As a PB writer, I should do more on my blog. There is one more I know of, but I have to go find the name of it. :-)

Thanks for the links.

Hey Corey, thanks for the shout out! I think I will try to do more examples like I did with Kathi Appelt's book in the future. It really demonstrates how art and words work together and it's been a popular piece.

I have to tell you I really enjoy your blog and the fact you are a picture book author! I think that is way cool and love the fact I have a connection with a PB author!

I love this idea, Corey! Thanks!

Which reminds me...I need to start doing more picture book posts.

Oh, good. Glad people seem to think this is worthwhile. Most of my followers write YA, so I wasn't sure it would generate any interest.

It seems most of the people I follow either through blogging or on FB write YA too. It's great to find other PB writers!

I write YA but I've written a picture book, too. I just like to write, I guess. If I run across any PB blogs, I'll let you know!

In my professional world this is what we call "cornering the market." Well done, sister. Well done.

There's a blog called "picturebookies" (I think). It's a group of author/illustrators. Lovely sneakpeeks appear from time to time.

Way to represent!
