Ten in '10 - Final Check In

Okay, back in the beginning of the year, I set a goal for myself-  write ten picture books in 2010.  (Some of you even said you would join me!)

For those of you who missed it, the motivation for this goal came from the realization that a good picture book author sells approximately one in five PB manuscripts.

My goal was to write ten, so that I could sell two.

Well, it is the end of the year.  How did I do?

I wrote six manuscripts. (and, BTW, that is a HUGE record for me!)

It may be four short of my goal, BUT ... I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I might have met my ultimate goal.   GOLDI ROCKS sold and I think my CINDERELLA story will sell as well.

So, for me, I consider 2010 a writing success.  (Don't ask my parenting or exercise goals, though!)

How did you guys do in 2010?

Congrats on meeting your publishing goal - so awesome! Now if I could only do the same... :)

I'm pretty sure I was one of those folks who said they would do ten. The fact that I don't remember for sure probably says volumes about how much goals motivate me.

BUT, I did write six, and I have some very good ideas for the coming year.

Mostly though, I need to polish two or three and start submitting.

You sold one, I think accounts for writing four. ;)

Awesome job! I like that goal and may join you for 2011 if you are setting it again!

That is fantastic, Corey! You've proven you're better than the odds. :)

I need to go back and check my resolutions. I think I may have met them all. But if you remember, mine were teeny weeny so I'd be sure to follow through. I can't believe we're already checking back on them. It seems like just a few weeks ago we were posting them.

Wow! I'm super proud of you for selling two! I'll go out on a limb of my own and say I hope to sell two novels next year. Miracles happen, right? Merry Christmas girl!

Congrats, Corey! I've accomplished a lot this year: started a blog, learned twitter, taking a writing class, found a critique group, finished four PB mss, got a job, went to two writers conferences (one online), and now the goal for 2011 is to SUBMIT 11 mss (not just write them). You gotta dream big, right?

Nicely done! Congrats! 2010 was a horrible writing year for me because of work/board work commitments ... the board work is over as of 1/31/11 (not that I'm counting), and I'm looking forward to having that writing time back! yay!!!!

A rocking success for you, Corey!

I consider 2010 to have been successful for me too, even though I haven't yet acquired that much coveted book contract. I did sell two poems to Highlights, which always thrills me! And I've had a couple of agents request a full ms of my novel-in-verse. And, of course, you and I wrote some darn good stuff, if you ask me. Any time you write something you're happy with, that's a little bit of success right there.
