Okay, .... everyone says, "Don't blog when you are angsty." So, I have been avoiding the blogosphere for the past few weeks. Goldi is driving me nuts. If PIGS was a 100 yard dash, then GOLDI is a friggin' marathon. An endless 26 mile struggle. But when I get to the finish line, it will be worth it, right?
I mean, I always tell my kids, "Easy is boring. Do something to challenge yourself?" So, I should take my own advice, shouldn't I? (You can tell I am trying convince myself, but not quite succeeding)
My agent and I are having artistic differences. There. I said it. Hope the blog police don't ring my bell in the next five minutes and take me away.
I am trying to tackle the issues one at a time, but it's kind of like thinking you were on mile 24 and then realizing... nope, just mile 14.
Loooooooooonnnng way to go.

Hang in there, Corey! It really WILL all be worth it in the end. And mile 14 is a heck of a lot closer to mile 24 than mile 2! :
Ditto what Shannon said. You will get there.
Agree with your other comments... HANG IN THERE!! xx
Sounds frustrating. I hope you're happy when it's finished!
Oh no. I'm so sorry, Corey. I'm sure you can work it all out and once you do, you'll be so in love with Goldi and your own magnificence (i think I spelled that wrong), it will totally be worth it!! Hang in there!!
Another ditto :) Advice is always easier to give than take, and knowing the answer doesn't make acting on it easy. Hang in there! :)
Artistic differences are some of the hardest, because there is no really right opinion [except yours of course :)]. And because it feels so important.
Figure out what battles are really important to you and fight them. And then find middle ground for the rest.
Easier said than done, I know. When it's all finished, though, you'll be so glad you hung in there!
Hi there,
Nice blog.

i know it feel crummy now...but you are writing SUCH an awesome story, and when you are done, and it's got a contract, you are going to feel like a zillion bucks. even if the royalty is only $31. LOL kidding! love you! goooooo goldi!!
I hear the frustration in your "voice". Think like the Little Engine That Could....I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....
Go girl, you'll make it!
Corey, keep it up. Goldi is SO worth it!
Hang in there. Life does get crazy sometimes. I just through my insane week and now everything looks all sunny.
I have an award for you today, Corey! Happy Friday! :-)
Oh no! It's hard enough to come up with the idea in the first place, but to have to REDO it must be really painful.
When it's done you are going to be SOOO excited! Can you focus on that?
Hang in there!
Good for you for putting this all out there. Artistic differences with agents/editors are so freaking difficult. It's hard to know how much to push, you know? I mean, Laura and I don't have all that much experience so who are we to argue with people who have 20 plus years in the business. But then again WE are the writers. They're our books. Our vision. SO...I don't know. I wish I had better advice for you.
Either way, I believe in you, Corey! You are insanely talented and I know you'll figure this out.
Dear Corey,
The silver lining is that either way, the book will end up stronger/better because:
1. either you will get your way and, having won over your agent, you will be more convinced than ever that the book is going the right direction. (yea!)
or
2. you will see what the agent is getting at and dredge from deep in your soul the words that will make the book better. (yea!)
See....either way you win.
(I only wish it were really as easy as I made it sound....)
Good luck!
Shelley
(P.S. I have some rhyming issues in a story I might want you to look at....interested?)
I agree with Shannon. It will all be worth it in the end! Hang in there!
OOhhh. See, this is where I love learning from you agented folks. I like hearing how you handle creative differences. The phone didnt ring right after that post, did it? ;)
It will all work out. One foot in front of the other. And don't forget to breathe.
Ack! I've been out of the loop lately, but just wanted to chime in that You Can Do It! And also say that I'm here if you need to talk.
that's hard :(
