What's the Story?

Okay, so we have a new favorite game at our house. I've been having trouble coming up with an idea for a new picture book, so I figured "Why not put my kids to work?" It's not like they help with laundry or dishes. They've got to earn their keep around here somehow.

So, I made up a game. It's called "What's the Story?" I give them a title and then they tell me what happens in the story.

The first title I gave them was ROSCOE TO THE RESCUE.

Jordan said, "Roscoe is a raccoon and he thinks he has super powers, but he doesn't (Clearly, the movie Bolt is a favorite at our house) He goes around trying to rescue all sorts of little animals. Then at the end, his mom gives him super powers." (She lost me with the last line, but up until that point, it was sounding like it had potential. )

Joshy said, "How about a story about monster trucks?" (Okay, he hasn't really grasped the game yet)

But I plan to keep playing! Sooner or later, one of them will give me my next big idea!

I would read a story about Monster trucks that were really MONSTERS!!! (Or has this been done....? If it hasn't, it should be. NOW!)

How is Goldi coming?

Summer is finally here in CA since school finally decided to END.

Here's to tons of new ideas!

Keep listening to those gems! :0) My daughters have both given me great writing prompts in the past. (And horrible writing prompts, just have to weed through them. LOL)

Good idea to get the little ones to do the hard work. Mine always talked alot while in the bathtub. They would tell each other stories there. Maybegetting them wet is the answer.

I second Shelley--real monster trucks. How fun is that?
I love the new blog look. Fresh and breezy.

I like the title idea for a book. Bet you'll be getting lots of gems from the young ones with that game.

Hey you changed your blog look! Seems like I'm noticing that a lot lately with the blogs I follow. I like it!

I have to admit I liked the mom giving the raccoon super powers.

Ha! Well, my 3 year old would totally read a book about monster trucks called Roscoe to the Rescue. ;)

What a great idea! And I have no doubt you'll find that story.

Great idea! My kids inspire many of my stories anyway, so why not put them directly to work on them.

I like this game! My ballerinas are continually saying things that spark a nugget of an idea. But that's as far as I get. I don't know where to take it.

I like coming up with the title and figuring out the story from there. Is that how you work?

Nice! Tapping into your kid's brilliant imaginations is an awesome idea.

I gave you an award of your choice at my blog, btw!
