What Are Little Boys Afraid of?

My son has seen every scary movie ever made. By the time he was four, my husband had shown him the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. Is he scared of Orks? (like his mom) No. Is he scared of Golem? (like his big sister) No.

These are some of the things that keep him up at night.

He is scared he will get "out" in baseball.

He is scared that none of his friends will be able to make it to his birthday party.

He is scared that one the papers he glued onto his homework sheet will fall off and the teacher will get mad at him

He is scared to take his "smock" off in art class because someone might see his stomach when he pulls it over his head.

He is scared to go to school because he can't find his library books.

He is scared to go to camp. What if he and Jordan are not on the same bus? (Ha, ha... as if the camp would send two buses to the same house!)

And my all time favorite...

He is scared that when he gets older he might "accidentally" do drugs.

Gosh, that is so funny and sweet, Corey! Save this blog post forever. When he's 21 you can look back at it and get all teary-eyed.

Aww! How cute is he? And what a great reminder to us writers of the things that matter to kids - not always the things that matter to us!

Oh how I wish mine were still young ... these are precious moments and I love that you are recording them.

and, I totally remember that "don't want to take the art smock off for fear of my shirt lifting up" feeling in gradeschool. Ah, the memories....

Okay, this is adorable! And I agree. It looks like the first draft of a really great picture book.

Too cute. Your posts about your kids always crack me up!

When my son was younger he had a dream that Gollum bit his finger off. But he was an Orc last Halloween. Go figure.

Children's fears can be so different than we adults expect -- but they're nonetheless a true concern to the kid involved. I can understand his worries! (He might like the book Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes.)

Your son's worries may give you new inspirations for a story line. Thanks for sharing, great blog.

Oh, mans, he sounds so cute. I just love the way kids' minds work. My son is the same way - except he's ALSO afraid of gremlins and creepy-crawlies and things that go bump in the night.

Thanks for the reminder of one of the things to be grateful for in our kids.
