Why I Don't Blog Anymore

When I started to blog in late 2008, I was madly in love with it.  One might even say "obsessed."  (Especially if "one' happened to be a neglected member of my family)

I got 169 posts up in my first full calendar year, and must have read and commented on literally tens of thousands of others.  In 2010, I was down to 84 posts, and in 2012, I set a goal of 24 and sadly, couldn't even manage that.

I used to get so many benefits from blogging.  A sense of community.  A feeling of connectedness and support. A way to procrastinate doing laundry.

What happened?  I asked myself.

Did I have burn out?  Had I run out of things to say? Was it because my kids were older and were not giving me as much funny material?

How could I have stopped blogging?

And that's when I realized.... I haven't stopped.

It is just now called-- Facebook.  Posts are shorter (and referred to as "status updates").  But the essence is the same. (just ask the neglected husband and kids)

And so, my days of posting here are pretty much behind me. However, since I can't update my web site myself, I will use this blog as the dynamic portion of my site. It'll kind of be my "News and Events" section.

And speaking of news... I have a LOT of it!

So stay tuned.

I'm the same way! I was thinking about shutting down my fledgling blog for the same reasons. I love Facebook so much, and it's just right for quick things I want to say (although I still haven't quite figured out how to make Twitter work for me!).

Yay for forthcoming news!

So many bloggers (not just Maureen Johnson) are abandoning blogging for Twitter and/or Facebook. Briefer, more concise posts. Or maybe people just have shorter attention spans...

Can't wait to hear your news, although I have the feeling I won't be that surprised!

I post less now too, but am on Twitter and FB more. A lot of my FB writer friends are the people like you that I met when I began blogging.

Can't wait to hear what your news is. :)

Well, I for one have missed your blog because I don't get your feeds on FB. I hate the way FB is set up, but I guess that's the breaks!

So glad you have glorious news to share. You deserve it.

This is too funny, Corey...I don't know that I have ever come to this blog of yours (although of course I've been to Meter Maids)...and now that I'm here, you are not going to be.:)
But I hear you loud and clear. I started blogging at the end of 2010...and tried (could only keep it up for 3 months) blogging EVERY DAY! Insanity! Last year, I tried to blog at least 2 or 3 times a week...this year it is going to be once a week plus one Monday and one Saturday a month. The bottom line is that blogging (which of course includes reading and commenting on other blogs) takes A LOT of time...away from writing and the rest of your life.
Corey...I'm so happy for your much deserved success...and look forward to keeping in touch on FB.:)
