Don't Limit Your Vocabulary

My three-year-old called his sister a miscreant today. I almost fell out of my chair.

ME: Did he just say miscreant?

HUSBAND: Oh, yeah. You've never heard him say that before? They call each other miscreants all the time.

Where did they get it from? Ice Age 2.

So, if you are writing a picture book and you are thinking of limiting your vocabulary, DON'T!

If kids aren't exposed to big words, how are they going to learn them?

Oh man. How funny! My two-year-old watches both Ice Age movies constantly. I wonder if she'll pull something out of it.

It's amazing what they pick up. Kind of scary too though. :p

Oh my gosh, that made me laugh! That is so awesome ... well, not that he called his sister a miscreant, but that he knew the word and used it, uh, appropriately?! Too funny!

So cute! And so true...don't limit! Don't be afraid that a word/sentence/paragraph/book is too big--there will be an audience for it!

That's awesome! I love when my kids pull words like that out of the air!
