Richard Peck said, "I am a writer because of two boys on a raft."
Which got me thinking...
I am a writer because a little girl discovers the key to a locked garden.
Why are you a writer?

I am a writer because of what's inside the wardrobe.
Oh, good one! I'm sure a lot of people are writers because of that!
I am a writer because I lived in the Magic Faraway Tree
My references may not be as immediately recognizable: I write because of midnight feasts and ginger beer and fantasized boarding school adventures.
I am a writer because of two prideful sisters and two prejudiced suitors.
I am a writer because of a boy named Garion who fulfilled a prophecy and became a king.
I'm a writer because my mom always passed me her books when she was through with them and my dad spent hours reading to me about what was inside the wardrobe. I'm also a writer because of the little Indian in the cupboard.
I am a writer because of a bull who just wanted to smell the flowers all day, and even though he was different from the other bulls, his mom was okay with it.
I want to say that I am a writer because I was born that way, but maybe it is because of a young man who got swallowed by a boa constrictor, and a little girl who was sick, and another little girl who would not take the garbage out, and a king who loved peanut butter sandwiches, and a crocodile who went to the dentist.
I'm a writer because it felt right and then I worked and worked and continue to work at learning the craft.
And, thanks for the nice comment on my blog. It really helps to know I'm not the only one who doesn't have full plot lines filling my head by the millions :)
I am a writer because a little boy dared to dream about winning a Golden Ticket.
I'm a writer because a little girl went on a quest to save her father from a severed brain.
And, because of the pale green pants with nobody inside.
I wanted to write from back when the cat showed up in a hat.
I'm a writer because a boy found a book and rode a dragon and because of a door that took children into another place.

I am a writer because a curious cat showed me how. Oh, and a boy found the egg and hope can be found in feathers.
I am a writer because only suckers whitewash fences themselves.
And I am a writer because I know that it is not romantic at all to be a vet in Yorkshire in the middle of the night, trying to fix a "bad calving", that is until it's born.
And of course, especially, I am a writer because...
"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort."
I am a writer because of Flora McFlimsy's trunk in the attic and Susan's sandpipers and several brave dogs and shipwrecked horses and two very unfortunate little princes in a tower. It was the magic held within the pages of so many books that enchanted me and never let me go.
Glad to have stumbled upon your fine blog.
i am a writer because of maggie and millie and molly and may.
Gosh, I love these! I am a bit embarrassed that I don't get all the references (Yat-Yee, yours is the not the only one!) but it is so much fun to read!
I am a writer because I still don't know where the ducks in Central Park go when the pond freezes over.
I am also a writer because the days were twenty-four hours long, but seemed longer.
These are so cool!
I am an illustrator because of a blunderbus, a pepper-blower, a huge red axe.
