Is Fifteen Years Too Long?

To wait to get published? I'd say so. To wait for true love to call? That is the question of this song.

David and I met on the beach in Dec 1985. His roommate, Steve, and my roommate, Carolyn, were brother and sister. They lived in Miami, and David and I were both down visiting for winter break. A bunch of us ended up on the beach one afternoon. I have no recollection. He has a photo to prove it.

David called me in November of 2000.

For our wedding, he had this song written:

If you're a writer, you write. No matter if you ever get published or not. Of course it's the goal of every writer, but I wouldn't stop after 15 years. No way. I'd keep writing. What if the next Newbery winner spilled out of you in year 16?

What a wonderful way to wrap up my day! I love the story, the song, the photo and that you shared it. No way is it too long when it ends so well.

Wait...was he thinking of you that entire time, trying to get up the nerve to call? Or is it just that after 15 years he couldn't forget about that girl he'd met and then he decided to track you down?

Steph,

Unfortunately, it was neither. It was more like he called for a blind date. He and I were both still close with Carolyn and Steve's family. He heard my name mentioned over the years and figured since we were both single and living on the upper east side, he should try taking me out.

Tracy,

No offense intended! I agree... just needed some sort of lead in to the post.

Corey,

No offense taken. I'm only 32. But if it takes 15 years, then so be it.

LOL! I like how the song has an 80's "Valley Girl" groove!

My husband took three weeks to call...and he didn't call, he emailed. And I thought that was too long!

There's a right time for everything. 1985 wasn't the right time for David and Corey. 2000 was.

Happy Anniversary!
