Conference Woes- But Not the Kind You Might Expect

I'm going to the NJ-SCBWI conference this weekend.  I've been to lots of conferences before, but never one that meant being away from home for two nights.  I've given my husband detailed lists and schedules, but I'm still nervous.   Everyone knows... a father is not a mother.   KNUFFLE BUNNY makes that abundantly clear! (Have I mentioned Mo Willems is a genius!)

Will David remember to sunblock the kids at the pool?  Will he make sure that Jordan  wears her black jazz shoes on Sunday for her Aladdin show?   Will he leave the can't-live-without bunny in the laundromat? (No, wait.  That's Trixie's dad!)

Usually my biggest fear is "Will he give them nightmares for years by showing them completely  inappropriate movies,"  but with Jordan in her first Disney musical, there is a bit more at stake!  (and, no, of course I am not missing her big debut.  I am skipping out of the conference early and going straight to the theater)

The good news is.. with all these worries running around my head, I have no time at all to be nervous about meeting editors and agents!

LOL, my biggest worry is that one day I'll have to go to a conference and meet people who "know" me online!

Ack! ;)

I'd like to say I'm mostly kidding, but the thought terrifies me!

Have fun at the conference, and tell Jordan to break a leg!

HA! At least there's an upside to all the worrying! They'll do great ... and you'll have a fabulous conference experience. And, you'll all come together at the end of the weekend for the exciting debut of your daughter in her Disney musical!! :-) Enjoy it all!

Mo WIllems is right. A father is not a mother -- but a father with a mother's lists and schedules has an edge.
It sounds like you've thought of everything.
Have a great time at the conference.

Good luck with the lists... my husband has a tendency to either lose them/not be able to find them somehow (one would think impossible when they're taped to the fridge and in 15 other places) or develop a sudden inability to read. When my daughter was less than a year, I left specific instructions about what she should have for lunch and he told me he didn't know what to give her, so he gave her pancakes (when she was not yet eating eggs or milk!) Oy!

I'm sure your husband will be much better! Have a great time at the conference and enjoy Jordan's debut - I'm sure both will be smashing successes!

Corey have fun!! I'm excited for you to get a chance to immerse yourself in the conference. It's hard for me to be away from my children too, but the reward for everyone is so great!

Corey, have fun at the conference. Have faith in your husband that he will follow your lists.

Ha ha! I did the same worrying when I left for school in January. How in the world would they all survive???

But they did. Maybe not in the way I would have, but they did. And if the black shoes end up to be something else, the world (and the musical) will go on. :)

Have a blast! And don't be nervous!

Corey, you are adorable and hilarious! (but I think I would have worried the same way in your shoes)

Enjoy the conference!

Have fun at the conference! At least you don't have to do any of the prep for show! I know...that could be good or bad! Sending good luck to you and your husband!

Please stop by my blog to pick up an award I've nominated you for.

I hope you had loads of fun at the conference and that your kiddos are happy and well when you get home. :)

My husband says he does things differently when I'm gone, my daughter still says (15yo) he does things the wrong way....

I understand this completely. Oh, yes I do. When you are the one who "does it all" w/your kids, it's so hard to trust that daddy can do it right.

Hope you sparkled at the conference. And that Jordan did so on the stage.

Have a wonderful time! I'm glad you get to go. I'm like you: I'd be worried about leaving my kids overnight. I haven't done that with my kids either yet. But once you get to the conference, I think you'll be fine!

Let us know how it goes!

I'm sure everyone was fine without you. :)
I have a trip coming up and am nervous - shoot, my boys are going to camp, and I think I'm even more nervous about that! Total strangers looking over my babies!

Anyway, I'd love a recap conference post if you find time.
