One Little Word

I may not be the laziest person on the planet, but I am certainly in the bottom 5th percentile. The other day, I woke up, put my aerobics clothes on, got my kids ready for school, dropped them off, came home, took my aerobics clothes off, and went back to sleep.

I think it weren't so darn cold, it would be easier to get myself to the gym. My husband, as chance would have it, is writing a fitness book with his uncle who is an expert in the field. He said they have a whole chapter on "excuses" and "too cold" isn't one of them. I told him to add it. And give me a credit.

Anyway, last year, I saw a lot of bloggers choose a "Word of the Year." This one word was supposed to sum up what you want to focus on for the year. People chose words like balance, patience, and freedom.

“A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can be sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow.”

So, for 2010, I am choosing stamina. More mental stamina than physical stamina. I have little spurts of energy. But it's not enough to dress for aerobics. I need to GO to aerobics.

Anyone else care to choose a word for 2010?

Oh my, I am right with you Corey (in the bottom 5th percentile). It's so hard to get my lazy butt to the gym (or anywhere else. What an excellent word.

Stamina - yes that is a good word. I definitely need stamina.

I love the one word! Consistency. That is what I need. Discipline.

Oh, that's two words.

Every writer needs some stamina.

Stamina is a good one; that's what I aim to attain in my fitness this year. I hate running for two minutes and feeling winded, or feeling like I'm going to pass out at the end of a sparring match. I get kicked in the head a lot.

Stamina is a good one! I'd pick determination. I'm hoping to start querying agents again in March and I'm going to need some extra determination to keep myself afloat with their responses.

Oooh, I want to pick a word, but I have to think about which one...I'll be back in a little bit when I come up with a good one.

What a great idea.

Stamina is a good word. And I agree that too cold is a valid excuse. As is too hot and too perfect. After all, there are lots better things to do when the weather is perfect.

Corey, I love this post! The fact that you admit to going back to bed is hilarious!
My word is CONFIDENCE. That I can finish the book, that is will be spectacular, that I will love it. Confidence in stuff like that. ;)

Oh, consistency and confidence are both good ones. I hope more people will chime in. So interesting to see what people pick.

I'd pick a word, but I'm too lazy.

CREATIVITY for us. We could always use some of this!

I'm so there on some days. I've had times when I've only showered and dressed because the hubby was coming home at 6 or so and I didn't want him to see me STILL in pj's. I'm usually writing on those days -- but still...

And for me, my word will be ORGANIZED. I'm hoping anyway :D

Hehe, I hear you! It's hard to get my lazy butt in gear some days. As for a word, I can't think of one right now. Oh, maybe LUCK. :D I think I need more of that, lol.

I like your word.

I'd like to choose a word, but that would mean so much procrastinating I'd never get anything done. In the meantime I've substitued too cold for too dangerous as my gym excuse of choice... surely that's what all this perpetual news about 'essential travel only' has been for - giving people like me a reason for staying at home. In the meantime, I'll reach for the sky and give stamina a go...

Corey Schwartz said...

Ha, ha! Too dangerous. Good one! I'll make sure he has that on his list :)

Excellent word!!

Mine is: PATIENCE.

As far as I'm concerned, "too cold" is a perfectly valid excuse not to do something, especially go to the gym.

;-)

I think my word would be "determination."

I've figured out my word...VICTORIOUS!!

I just really like it.

Or maybe I should choose LUCK.

Ha! I am blogging in my exercise clothes instead of actually exercising! Doesn't all the finger movement burn some calories?

Stamina. What a great word! I need a word. I know what I need, but I can't sum it up in one word right now. Have to think on it.

And, I am SO there with you on the working out. I'm worse, though. I'll keep the exercise clothes on all day and beat myself up over not going. Puts me in a very foul mood. Not good.

I love your word! (And, was cracking up at this post!). I think I'm going to have to go back to 'patience' ... because I'm losing my patience on many levels with many things! :-)
