Help! I Need a Spark.

As I've said before, I generally get one decent picture book idea a year. 2009's came in January! I wrote it in February, polished it in March, and now it is almost ready to go out. So, I'm either going to have a very dull, uneventful nine months. Or... I am going to break my record and come up with multiple PB plots this year! I am hoping for the latter.

But, so far... nothing. I've been thinking, listening intently to my kids, brainstorming with Becky, and I don't even have any inklings of an idea.

I so envy those people who get like an idea a minute.

Help! Anyone have an idea for sale? :)

I've always thought that when you seek ideas, they'll come to you. Just keep an open eye towards the quirky and fun, and you'll find an idea in your daily life!

I honestly haven't read enough picture books to know what has been done, what would work, and/or what's age appropriate. But...

What about an imaginary friend (could be an animal even) that a child tries to blame for all the trouble he/she gets into doing mischievous kid things?

How about something that targets children who are just learning pretend play and are discovering their imagination? My 2 1/2 year old is starting to get into pretend play and I keep wondering how best to stimulate her imagination.

Hope you find some ideas!

Good luck ... I'm sure an idea will come to you when you least expect it ... and it will be a great one! :-)

Corey,

Good ideas come to those who wait. In the mean time, why don't you try some JOP's over on my site?

:-)

I'm still brainstorming but I thought of a title for you (yes even with no story line I have a title).

The Knucklehead Club

I think your kids could help write it. ;)

I actually see it becoming a series. I better get a "Thanks" in the recognition part of the book. lol.

Ha! PurpleClover, I tried starting a Knucklehead story yesterday before I read your comment! So funny! I really didn't get anywhere, but I'll keep playing around with it.

Casey, thanks for the suggestions. Becky and I actually just wrote a story about a kid with a great imagination. My daughter is the queen of pretend so we kind of got the idea from her.

Hey, I think the knucklehead series is a good idea. Good luck with sending out the current book. The business side is never as much fun as the writing side... :^)

watch your kids closely tomorrow morning . . . what's the first problem they encounter? Bingo! you've got a story starter.
